Facebook Personal Profile vs Business Page: Structure & Access Guide

A Facebook personal profile and a Facebook Page serve different purposes. For a company using Meta for marketing, understanding that distinction is important because business assets are ultimately administered by real people with assigned permissions.

This guide focuses on structure, access and operational hygiene rather than promising that any particular setup prevents restrictions.

Personal profile: the individual identity layer

A personal profile represents an individual. People use their profiles to access Facebook and, where authorized, administer business assets. Companies should not create fictional personal identities to operate business assets.

For business operations, the important point is permissions: the right people should have the right level of access, and access should be reviewed when roles change.

Business Page: the public company presence

A Facebook Page represents a business, organization or brand. It can publish company content, receive messages and participate in Meta's broader business ecosystem.

A Page does not function like a separate employee login with a shared company password. Authorized people and business structures manage access to it.

Keep access resilient without sharing credentials

A company should avoid making one person's credentials the only route to critical business assets. Where Meta's current tools allow it, assign appropriate access to more than one trusted administrator and keep permissions current.

That is different from sharing a personal password. Each authorized person should use their own legitimate account and appropriate security controls.

Separate organic presence from paid-media operations

A business Page is part of the brand's public presence. Paid advertising also involves ad accounts, billing, permissions, measurement assets and platform review. Those functions should be managed deliberately rather than treated as one interchangeable account.

For advertisers working with an agency or media partner, clarify which assets the advertiser owns, what access the partner receives and what happens to permissions if the commercial relationship ends.

Agency-supported Meta access

For eligible advertisers, an agency-supported relationship may help with onboarding, funding coordination, billing and routine account operations. It should not be presented as insulation from platform enforcement, guaranteed recovery or a way to avoid spending controls.

Advertiser eligibility and campaign review remain subject to Meta's requirements.
